Related to the drug Zopiclone of the same class, Alpidem differs from Zopiclone in that it does not produce sedative effects at normal doses. It was introduced relatively recently and is primarily intended to act as an anxiolytic. Sadly it was withdrawn under the brand name of Anaxyl from the market following reports of severe liver damage; over brands may still be available.
